Underwriter Technical Lines

A role as an Underwriter Technical Lines based in Brussels within the Insurance sector offers the opportunity to evaluate, price, and manage complex engineering risks across a diverse portfolio, including Engineering, Machinery Breakdown, and Construction/EAR. This position plays a key role in delivering technical underwriting excellence while building strong relationships with members, brokers, and reinsurers.

Your responsibilities as an Underwriter Technical Lines :

Underwriting

• Analyse and assess risks for new and renewal business, preparing comprehensive underwriting proposals and submission files
• Ability to summarise engineering survey reports to analyse risk exposures and define appropriate policy conditions
• Negotiate coverage terms with members and brokers, identifying areas for improvement and implementing underwriting solutions
• Draft and review policy documentation, including wording and clauses, in collaboration with the underwriting team
• Monitor portfolio performance and maintain accurate records in underwriting systems
• Ensure timely communication of renewal documentation and underwriting decisions to members and brokers

Claims Awareness

• Maintain awareness of claims trends and incorporate lessons learned into underwriting strategies
• Collaborate with the claims team on complex cases to strengthen risk assessment

Reinsurance

• Prepare treaty and facultative reinsurance submissions and documentation
• Liaise with reinsurers to secure appropriate coverage and terms
• Ensure compliance with reinsurance standards and timely settlement processing

Your profile :

• You have at least 5 years of experience in underwriting technical lines such as Engineering, Specialty Risks, Machinery Breakdown, or Construction/EAR
• You have a strong engineering background or technical expertise that allows you to assess complex risks with confidence
• You have a solid understanding of claims processes and can integrate insights into underwriting decisions
• You are analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of making sound risk assessments
• You are a strong negotiator with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders
• You are comfortable working with underwriting systems and Microsoft Office tools
• You are fluent in English and additional languages are considered an asset
• You are proactive, solution-oriented, and able to build long-term professional relationships
