Reporting automation & data management expert

Our client, a company active in project financing, is looking for a self-employed Reporting Automation & Data Management Expert for a 6-month freelance interim assignment based in Brussels, with an expected start date between 1 and 15 July 2026. The objective of this assignment is to improve and automate existing reporting processes. The current reporting environment relies heavily on manual Excel-based workflows managed by one key team member who will be leaving. The expert will help capture existing knowledge, streamline processes, and implement robust reporting solutions that can be maintained by the Finance team.

The Consultant's primary mandate is to automate the current reporting process and put it on a sound data foundation. Concretely, the engagement will:

  • Automate the current quarterly and annual reporting to the EC, minimising manual handling and key-person dependency;
  • Re-architect the data behind the reporting establishing clear data ownership, quality controls, and a defined target architecture and toolset;
  • Document and transfer the new processes so the Finance Team can run reporting end-to-end.

Deliverables

  • Documented target state process;
  • Automated reporting solution replacing manual steps, with a defined target data architecture and toolset;
  • Quarterly and annual reports delivered on time throughout the engagement;
  • Process documentation, run-books and a user manual enabling autonomous operation by the team;
  • Enterprise Data Foundation: Design, build, and implement a database or alternative solution following FP&A industry best practices;
  • Financial Reporting Automation : Execute automation of financial and management reporting processes ;
  • Technical Data Architecture Documentation: Own technical data architecture documentation and process specifications, working collaboratively with Finance lead to establish data quality KPIs and monitoring frameworks.

Required Profile

This is an expert on automation and data management with strong financial-reporting domain knowledge. Depth in automation/data plus solid command of the relevant reporting frameworks is essential; the full finance-specialist credential set is welcome but secondary.

Must have

  • 10+ years' progressive experience in process automation, data management and financial reporting, with a track record of autonomous delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to automate manual / Excel-based reporting and design reproducible, end-to-end processes.
  • Experience with database management
  • Strong hands-on skills in Python and SQL (or alternatives).
  • Proficiency in SQL database or alternative solution design and management
  • Experience with relational database architecture and data modelling
  • Ability to design, document and manage end-to-end reporting processes.
  • BI tooling experience (Power BI, Jasper Reports).

Strong assets

  • Professional certification (CFA, CPA, ACCA or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of financial-instrument valuation (debt, equity, guarantees).
  • Experience in guarantee management.
  • Working knowledge of at least one regulatory framework relevant to the role: IFRS 9, IPSAS 41 or EAR11.
