What is a job student?
A student worker is a student who takes on temporary work during holiday periods (or throughout the academic year) alongside their studies. The student is hired for a fixed period and does not remain employed by the staffing agency once the assignment ends. -
What tasks can a student employee take on?
Student workers can be assigned a wide range of tasks, from clearing administrative backlogs and supporting ongoing projects to covering absences due to holidays or illness.
At Robert Walters, we specialise in placing student workers in roles such as financial administration, customer service, logistics, reception, sales & marketing, and HR administration — with a strong focus on the Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Groot-Bijgaarden, and Zaventem regions.

What does a job student cost?
Job students are entitled to the minimum wage set by the joint committee relevant to your sector. Student jobs come with favourable conditions for employers: since only a limited social security (RSZ) solidarity contribution applies, the labour costs are lower. As a result, we also apply a significantly lower coefficient than we do for permanent employees.
At the same time, student employees are entitled to the same benefits as regular staff, such as lunch vouchers, commuting allowances, eco vouchers, and payment for public holidays that fall on their scheduled working days.
Please note: once a student exceeds the limit of 650 working hours, regular social contributions apply. This increases both the overall cost and our coefficient. Robert Walters monitors this closely and will inform both the student and the organisation in a timely manner.

Can I offer a job student a permanent contract after their student job?
Yes, you can. But only if the new role is clearly different from the one they performed as a student. If the tasks remain largely the same, it could be seen as a disguised, low-cost trial period, something best avoided as an employer.
However, if there is a clear distinction in the role and responsibilities, transitioning to a permanent contract poses no issue at all.
