Once an intern, now senior consultant
After his internship, it was crystal clear to Glenn: recruitment was the right path for him.
What initially started with an encounter at a job fair became the starting point of Glenn's career: from intern to senior consultant at Robert Walters three years later.
Can you tell us about your educational background?
I completed my secondary education with a focus on languages and then pursued a Bachelor's degree in Office Management at Ecsedi in Brussels. The program leaned heavily towards administration, and in my final year, it was time to find a company to do an internship. That’s how I ended up joining Robert Walters as an intern.
What drew you to an internship in recruitment, and why Robert Walters in particular?
My older sister, who works in recruitment, was the one who first sparked my interest. Hearing her stories made me realize that it was a field I could really enjoy – maybe recruitment runs in the family!
Robert Walters stood out to me early on. I had seen the company’s presence on LinkedIn and on various job boards, but what really sealed the deal was meeting Robert Walters’ consultants at a job fair hosted by my school. The energy and enthusiasm they shared about their work and the company really stuck with me and made me eager to apply.
What was your first impression of Robert Walters when you started your internship?
It matched my expectations perfectly. At the job fair, the consultants were so welcoming, and when I joined the team as an intern, I experienced that same warm and open atmosphere.
From day one, communication was great, and there was always room for laughter.
Even beyond my own team, I connected with colleagues across different departments, which made Robert Walters feel like a truly inviting and supportive environment.
Why did you decide to stay with Robert Walters after your internship?
Originally, I planned to pursue a master's degree, but Robert Walters offered me a contract at the end of my internship – and the rest is history! Honestly, I didn’t hesitate long: I had enjoyed the experience so much, and the team was fantastic.
More than that, I was ready to take on more responsibility and dive into the role of recruitment consultant. During my internship as a recruiter, I mainly focused on candidate sourcing and interviews, while the consultants closed the deals. I was eager to step into the consultant role and manage the full recruitment process from start to finish.
How was the transition from intern recruiter to consultant?
I found it very exciting! Since I was already confident in the recruiter role, I could dedicate my full attention to mastering the sales side of the job. Looking back at the past three years – from intern to now senior consultant - I’ve grown tremendously. I’ve built a solid understanding of the job market, refined my sourcing strategies, and improved key skills like client alignment, negotiation, stress and time management, and communication. These have all been essential in managing multiple recruitments at once and providing the best guidance to clients and candidates.
What have been some of your most memorable moments at Robert Walters so far?
A highlight was definitely being promoted to senior consultant earlier this year. It was a huge milestone and a rewarding recognition of how far I’ve come since my internship.
That said, every successful placement still gives me a rush. One that stands out is helping a candidate land a role after a particularly long and challenging process. Seeing them thrive in their new position today reminds me how impactful our work can be. That’s what makes recruitment so rewarding – the human connection.
I love the constant interaction with candidates, spotting potential, and guiding them through the process. At the same time, the challenge of matching talent with client needs, negotiating offers, and closing deals is incredibly motivating. In the end, it’s about building strong, lasting relationships with both clients and candidates – that’s how you create real value.
