In 2024, productivity and efficiency will remain top priorities for financial management. While the need for financial talent remains high, we foresee a less pronounced increase in demand for operational profiles, just as in 2023. This is due to further automation and outsourcing of certain tasks.
Employees are now expected to be flexible and take on the role of a true business partner. According to Marie-Astrid Carlier, associate director at international recruitment firm Robert Walters, organizations need to look not only at experience but also at potential, business acumen and communication skills when attracting new talent. She stresses that hard skills can be taught, and when applicants know there is room for personal growth within the organization, they are more easily inclined to make a long-term commitment.

Robert Walters' annual salary survey shows that 39% of surveyed professionals expect a pay increase in 2024, with almost half (48%) hoping for an increase of 6% or more. When it comes to bonuses, finance professionals need not worry. Senior professionals in particular can count on a bonus in 2024 in recognition of their hard work in 2023.
Over the past year, numerous organizations have been working on the package of fringe benefits for their staff, on top of salary. The ability to work hybrid and offering a company car proved to be by far the most popular benefits that employers offer their employees, and these are also the most appreciated in the workplace, according to the same study by Robert Walters.
