Analysing vacancy volumes across Belgium from Jobfeed*, we noticed that the number of job adverts for cash collectors rose by 143% since the beginning of this year compared to the same period last year.
Demand for cash collectors was highest in the Antwerp region (48%) and in Brussels (25%) and particularly peaked in February and during the summer months. 2 out of 3 vacancies concerned permanent employment offers.
Antje Mentens, Manager at Robert Walters, explains what a cash collector does on a daily basis, the skills required to succeed and what makes the job so interesting.
"A cash collector analyses client records and calls them with respect to outstanding invoices. He/she is also responsible for sending payment reminders and preparing legal documents if necessary. Booking payments is also part of the job, as well as assisting in day-to-day administrative accounting tasks."
"Economic growth has led companies to reinvest in the future. To finance these investments, they need cash flow. As a result, organisations are closely monitoring that payments are made in due time."
Assertiveness and good communication skills are essential: every day, you’re in constant contact with clients and looking for a solution to get invoices paid as quickly as possible.
"Strong language skills are also important, especially when dealing with international companies. Besides this, empathy and maturity are also required as it is important to maintain a good after-sales relationship with each client. Anyone who can work effectively and accurately within the agreed deadlines is undoubtedly a born cash collector."
"Although it's a classic 9-5 job, good organisational skills will allow you to manage your own time. Depending on the size of the company, part-time employment in this role can also often be an option. Ideal if you’re looking for a part-time job within finance. Are you charismatic and looking for a career in accounting but are not into the numbers behind? Do you have strong language and problem solving skills? Then a job as a cash collector is definitely worth considering, especially because the salary is also higher than that of an assistant accountant."
